Two Tuesday 5

Time is starting to speed up, so much so that I almost forgot to blog today! But I did remember, so here’s what’s gone down this week.

Places we’ve been: the zoo (and we all survived, even if Sophia ended up sitting in the pram and Nathan carried Aidan), Tappy Toes, Aidan’s hearing appointment and Home Bargains. We even managed to have friends around for lunch on Sunday, and it was perfectly civilised! I mean, we might have spent about 8 hours prepping for it between us, but we did it!

Topsy-turvy at the zoo!

I had my first solo trip out with both children to Breastfeeding Support Group which was pretty good, apart from heavy doors on the way in with a pram and a toddler proving a challenge.

I also did 4 hours on my own one evening. That was less successful. As soon as Nathan left the house, it seemed that both children developed heavy colds. Soph woke up crying and snotty, so I went to settle her and then realised I’d left Aidan downstairs as I rushed up to her. I then went back down to him and carried on with some housework. Sophia woke up again and I took Aidan in with her and fed him while I settled her. Then the next time Soph woke up, Aidan was sick on my hair. At this point, my back was aching from feeding without any back support, so I decided to bring everybody into our room. I figured Nathan could decide whether to squeeze in or find another bed when he got home.

Obviously, by the time Nathan got back, neither of them were very snotty and he couldn’t really see why there were so many people in one bed. Anyway, it’s these kind of fun and games that this blog series is about!

Milestones this week: picking photos from Aidan’s baby photoshoot, moving Aidan out of newborn clothes and into 0-3 months, taking them both out by myself, and managing a trip to the zoo.

Other observations:

One morning before nursery, Sophia got upset when I told her she couldn’t take Aidan’s toy lamb away when he was looking at it. After a bit of probing, it turns out that she thought that all the toys in the house were hers, and she was just allowing Aidan to use them for a bit. We had a difficult but important conversation about how some things are hers, and some things are not. She was upset, but I think she understood. She took a toy unicorn with her and kept it in nursery all day. When she came home though, she showed the unicorn to the baby and asked if he wanted to hold it. All seems good on this front – for now!

Is this a good reason to file for divorce? Your toddler acquires a new bright pink recorder (or trumpet, as she calls it) and you husband sends your toddler to see you and play you a song knowing full well that you’re on the toilet. HONESTLY! I’m locking the door from here on in.

More next week x

Breastfeeding while walking around the zoo. I’m quite chuffed with this one!
