7.42am: The wait is over! Sophia got into our first choice school! Bring on September!
11.05am So far today I’ve been pottering (doing laundry) and getting everybody dressed. We’re going out for a celebratory subway and Soph is going to pick her Easter egg.
12.14pm She went for a unicorn egg from Thorntons. Good choice. We’re now in Subway having a little breather. Sophia is very impressed that she could have sweetcorn AND cucumber AND gherkin AND ketchup (yes ketchup) on her tuna sandwich. Next, we’re off to Creative Paws, a craft group run by a local community called Crosby Wombles. Sophia has picked a bracelet making kit from Hobbycraft and I’ve got my knitting. All we’ve got to do is brave the rain and get back to the car where our coats are. Rookie error.
2.30pm We had a really nice time at the craft group. People were so welcoming and very kind to Sophia. Aidan sat in the highchair, smiling at everyone, happy little chap that he is. We are so blessed to have many people in our life who are genuinely interested in how they are and what they’re up to. It’s so important to me that my children are raised as part of a community.

Next, we’re off to see a couple of Sophia’s little friends from St Giles. They’ve got into the same school, so we’re having an impromptu party!
5.20pm We’re back home and Nathan is getting tea. We’re having chicken, chips and sweetcorn. Our friends have tickets for a pantomime tomorrow but they aren’t up for going, so it looks like we’ll get to go instead! How exciting.
7.02pm I’m feeding Aidan and hoping he’ll settle quickly. He missed a nap watching 5 children run around and play this afternoon. He’s definitely developing some FOMO! Over tea, I was telling Nathan about what we’ve been up to, and he said,’You know how to fill a day, don’t you?!’. We certainly do! What an unusual but utterly lovely Holy Week Wednesday.
7.15pm Aidan is down! Nathan is out, so next, I need to read stories with Sophia and then get her into her room.
7.50pm Aidan is awake because Sophia tripped when climbing down from the bed and started howling. She’s fine, just a bit shaken.
8.03pm While I’ve been settling Aidan (again), Sophia has got herself strawberries out of the fridge and put Classic FM on her tape player. I like her style.
8.20pm they’re both asleep! Even after the false start, this is the earliest it’s been in ages.
10.47pm Nathan is back and we’ve cleaned the kitchen. We also had twenty minutes lying on the sofa watching Tiktoks together. It was nice to pause at the end of the day and just have some time, just us.
