7.15am Today is going to be a weird day. Today is my quietest day of this Holy Week, but Saturday is usually one of my busiest and fun filled.
Last Easter Saturday, and the one before that, and the one before that, I ran a big family event. With as many hands on deck as possible, costing as little as possible, fitting as many in as possible, we had a fun afternoon of crafts, activities and family time. We issued an invitation to church the next day in the hope that something sticks somewhere.
Very wisely, in my opinion, there isn’t an Easter event at ASSF this year. As I run it and organise it, I can tell you it’s hard work, and the team is already doing more than enough.
So today, I’m having what feels like a normal Saturday. St Giles is being decorated for tomorrow so Nathan will go over for a bit. Then we’re going to an artisan market in Crosby. Then it’s tea, bath and bed before Nathan goes and does the Easter Vigil service.
10.07am Sophia has gone with Nathan over to church, dressed as Rapunzel, of course.
11.25am We planned to leave at 11. There’s no rush, of course, but if the cakes at the market have all gone, I’ll not be pleased!
12.34pm In the end, I wandered over and had a nice time at St Giles. There was such a buzz as people cleaned and tidied and decorated. The church, the people and the building, are lovely.
4.04pm We had a great time at the market. On the way there, I picked up my robes from ASSF (shh) and had a little look around. Our peaceful, warm church looks gorgeous. I’ve noticed a little tomb has been set up on a table in front of the altar. I had a little peak inside. It’s all dark, but there’s some kind of shiny material lining the walls. I wonder what’s going to happen?
This morning, Aidan was beside himself when I went out of the room to go to the loo, and again when I went to brush my teeth. This has been building for a while, and all babies go through it. Basically, he’s learning that he and I are not the same thing, which he has believed up until this point. He has recently developed a better understanding of space and distance, which means he’s noticed that I can go really far away from him. It’s very scary for him, and he thinks I might not come back. When we got back home, Sophia went with Nathan to church again, so I’m planning to have some good quality play time with Aidan to reassure him that he’s OK and I’m here.
8.20pm Both kids are down. Sophia didn’t even make it into her bed. As I was settling her, Aidan woke up. I left her reading to herself but eventually she peaked her head around the door, climbed up, snuggled down and fell asleep. I couldn’t bring myself to move her. The little love.
9.25pm Nathan is back. We’re both sorry for being grumpy over tea. It’s a long week, even with just one job to think about! It always takes a toll on us, and by this time tomorrow there will have been 17 services at St Giles in 8 days.
Chatting just now, Nathan has gone to buy more milk for church tomorrow. There have been lots of cups of tea and the usual supply wasn’t enough – not unlike our energy, really! I’ve suggested he pick up anything that might do for an Easter Egg hunt as well. I didn’t realise how keen Sophia was to do this until she told me she’d hidden a few little eggs she won at the market herself. We can’t have that!
11.27pm Time to settle down, we’ve got an early start tomorrow!
