Today I found myself stood in my church office shoveling pink pickled onions into my mouth with my bare hands. So I guess it’s time to start another pregnancy blog series!
Don’t get me wrong, it’s not just the pickled onion obsession that’s given me a clue that there’s a little bean cooking. The fatigue, strong sense of smell and 9 days of increasingly strong double lines on pregnancy tests have been a bit of a give away.
Oh, and Sophia pointing to my stomach on holiday saying ‘baby’ for the first time in her life, several times. That was a bit of a weird one as even I wasn’t suspicious at that point!
So yes, here we are, bun number two!
I was actually congratulated on this pregnancy several months ago (like, over half a year ago) at a family party. Before we arrived, baby 2 had been talked of with such certainty that one family member was led to believe that it was happening imminently and said, ‘Congratulations on your news!’. Funny, maybe. Awkward, certainly. Invasive, to be honest, yes.
I suppose it is only natural that people will be curious about these things. But the truth is, when people actually voice it, you feel like you’ll be letting people down if it doesn’t happen. And when those periods keep coming, you believe you are letting people down.
Amyway, it does seem to be happening, so let’s not dwell on that too much.
My favourite comments so far from people who aren’t in the know include:
‘You need to tuck your chair in Poppy, you’ll need to loose weight!’ – said with a wink and a smile and if anybody else had said it, I wouldn’t have been so forgiving!
‘You look tired and pale, what can we do to help you sleep better? You need to make sure you rest’. Some women just know by looking at expectant Mothers don’t they? I’m not sure if that’s what happened here!
‘You’re radiant! You don’t expect to see a vicar who is glowing’ – a big compliment as I felt like death at the time.
So yes. It seems only a matter of time before people start guessing, or my poor poker face gives it away, or Sophia just tells everybody she sees.
More to follow soon!
