Ministry Mum Monday 22

Aren’t these Mondays coming round fast?!

This week: meetings, office work, a prayer meeting, a hospital appointment for Aidan’s eye, after school hot chocolate, tappy toes, Hub barista training, girls date, a spa morning and a trip from Crosby to Aintree Hospital carpark to deliver money to Nathan who had managed to leave home without any means to pay!

Mum life: has been quite concerning. Aidan has a turn in his eye, and it doesn’t seem to be the usual reason that lots of little children have trouble with their eyes. More appointments and tests to follow.

One thing the doctor suggested was to get Aidan a haircut. His beautiful blond tips had just started to go in his eyes about a week before. So, now he’s had a big old chop. He looks so grown up!

Ministry life has been as varied as ever! We had a very busy hot chocolate session on Friday afternoon when two girls asked to be christened. We then had 9 under 16s at the main Sunday service, which meant that the kids corner was overflowing!

One funny moment was on Sunday when I was at the table saying the prayers over the bread and wine. I was holding Aidan and feeding him milky chocolate buttons as I do. I thought I’d try him on an unconsecrated wafer and he was not impressed. He took it out of his mouth and tried to put it in mine as I was speaking!

Our day off was fab. I got up with the kids and took them to a play place so Nathan could have a lie in. We had a nice time and I introduced Sophia to the concept of brunch!

After that, I dropped Aidan off with Nathan and Sophia and I got the train into Waterloo via town to have a much needed girls date. We went to a cafe called Victor’s, which is doing well selling cakes in the shape of fruit and various other things. Sophia and I shared a mango mousse cake and a giant Ferrero Rocher (also known as Handsome Fiyero) cake. We had such a good afternoon, and I think we both felt better for some quality time together.

In the evening, Nathan and I went to a party! I mentioned this in my last blog and I had assumed there would be a few St Giles people there. We were surprised when it was just Nathan and I from church! We had a cracking evening chatting away, enjoying the food and music. We sat with some very interesting and funny people, and we both felt sad when it was time to come away and get ready for the next day.

What Sophia said: ‘Mummy, when we go on our girls date, we should take our books and sit in the cafe and read them’ and so we did just that! It was very lovely.

What Aidan said:

Me: On Saturday, we’re going to give Daddy a lie in.

Aidan (hearing lion): ROARRRRR!

Drama: losing Amber monkey for a few days, only to find her again underneath Sophia’s mattress!

This week I’m especially grateful for a morning at the spa. Over December, Sophia kept asking me what I wanted for Christmas. I kept saying ‘an hour off!’ just like Rita OGrady in Made in Dagenham the Musical. Anyway, on Christmas day, a voucher for a spa morning and lunch arrived in my inbox. I was surprised because I really hadn’t been dropping hints! But I was very impressed that Nathan worked out a way to give me what I’d been asking for.

Anyway, I went to the spa today and it was so lovely. I relaxed, swam, read my book, had a massage and enjoyed lunch overlooking the golf course. I came back to Crosby for 3 to pick up Aidan and to go to a meeting, like, but it was great to relax while I could!

Coming up: Valentines wedding dress display at St Giles.

Girls do cake!
