A prayer for the families of those found in the lorry

I cannot stop thinking about the relatives of those people who were found in the lorry in Essex. It is understood that some of the victims may have come from Nghe An district, Vietnam, where the priest says that the town is ‘covered in sorrow’. Wherever those people were from, I have found myself needing to pray for their families and friends. In case anybody else is feeling the same way, I have written a prayer for them.

Heavenly Father,

We cannot even begin to imagine what the families and friends of these people are going through after such a tragedy. Many are suspecting but not knowing for sure, hoping beyond hope that all is well and yet fearing that it is not, as the people are gradually identified.

We pray that wherever they are, the friends and families would be surrounded by your love, support and strength at this time. In the waiting, in the worrying, we pray that you would grant them some kind of peace.

Whatever comes, we pray that you would wrap your arms of love around them in the days, weeks, months and years to come. We lift them up to you now.

We also ask for justice, and we offer our lives to you, so that we may help to build your kingdom. Would you please tear down what need to be torn down in the world, and build up what needs to be built up.

In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
