Two Tuesday 13

Generally speaking time has been flying. But it feels like a very long time since my last Two Tuesday!

Sophia and I are very alike and we usually get on really well. But at the weekend, we just clashed over and over again, and it was tough. It was a very, very long Thursday-Sunday and I would have loved to have got back work for a break. I’d have done any meeting, any admin, any mundane task…

Anyway, less of that. She’s amazing. It’s just a sign of things to come in those teenage years!

So, places we’ve been as a three: toddlers, tappy toes, the church coffee morning, the doctors for Sophia’s eye and St Giles on Sunday morning.

Milestones:

Aidan is out of 0-3 clothes and into 3-6!

Sophia had her first big hair cut. We were both getting fed up with the super long hair, which was a pain to brush.

Aidan graduated from Step 1 of Lullababy, complete with mortar board, certificate and photo opportunity!

Little graduate!

This afternoon, Aidan had his long-awaited tongue tie snip. It was pretty brutal. They say it doesn’t hurt them, and I’m sure that’s true. But he was taken off me and had a bright light shone on his face and some sharp scissors cut his tongue tie (which was a loud ‘snip’ sound!). Then the nurse held him to apply pressure to the cut, and I wasn’t allowed to hold him until we got into another room to nurse in. All of which was a bit tricky for the three of us, even if there are no nerves yet in that part of his mouth.

That being said, it needed doing. The Doctor peered into his mouth with her bright light and said ‘wow, that’s a tongue tie. You have done very well to feed him’. That validation after I’ve been in pain was really moving. My lip wobbled. But then it meant my guard was down for what happened next, which was the procedure.

Anyway, he’s been a bit fussy tonight but overall he is already feeding so much better. I’m sore, and that won’t go away overnight, but at least I know that it shouldn’t get any worse!

Other things:

We put our tree up! It was really lovely. Soph was more into it than ever before, and Aidan happily sat there in his bouncer listening to the music and chatter.

4 years of Sophia and the tree

What Sophia said:

Apart from repeatedly changing her mind 10 times in 10 minutes (who does she get that from?!), she has said many wonderful things.

She’s chatting more to her brother who is cooing back to her. She’s playing games and entertaining herself and Aidan. She’s strong and kind. She’s negotiating like a terrorist. And she never forgets a thing.

She’s not as terrified of Father Christmas as she was, but she’s still not keen. She keeps asking if he will be coming to our house. I asked if she’d like Father Christmas to bring presents, or Mummy and Daddy. She said ‘Mummy and Daddy’. So that’s what we’ll do!

More next time x

  1. You’ve done well to manage this long with the tongue tie. It will make a difference. J went from 25 feeds a day (and still hungry) to a more normal and manageable amount.

  2. Apparently checking for tongue tie used to be standard procedure and I don’t understand why it isn’t any more!!
