Little Eye

If I look too closely, if I step into that room

Where I shut away the worry, it’s space of gloom.

When they ask me how he is, I answer vaguely, brightly

Because I can’t begin to share worry that could bind me.

I’m trying to balance it all, two I love so much my heart aches

But the not knowing: ‘watch as she buckles and bends but never breaks’.

They’ve play Dr Google and told me that we’re wrong

But that makes it much worse and doesn’t help along.

No bag carriers or messages, on my own today

But a little hand reached for mine and staff showed us the way.

Lights, drops, breakfast, glasses, nothing worse and nothing better.

A six month wait for the next call, a wait we’ll wait together.

It’s strange and ironic that the causes of the strife

Are the very reason that we choose to see the light
